How difficult was it to get admitted to the University of South Carolina in 1897? At that time, regrettably, only white students were admitted. You had to know grammar, geography, algebra, history — and Latin and Greek! Admission standards at the university have varied in the past two centuries. The bar for admission is a lot different than it was in 1897, but it guarantees that those who get in are ready to succeed.
